The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Open Cans With I'm in the mood lately where I keep laughing out loud at jokes I heard 3 years ago and suddenly remembered. It's a little stigmatizing, out in public. The title above is from a cartoon in the last issue of Utne Reader. There's a picture of a man staring very, very, very hard at a can in front of him. It's currently the thing most likely to cause a random burst of belly laughter. That's probably at least partly due to the gleeful shock value of finding it in Utne Reader, where cartoons tend to have a more political bent. Using Google, I was trying to find another joke that used to make me laugh uncontrollably -- it's some poem of the "Roses Are Red" variety. This is not what I was looking for, nor is it as good as what I was looking for, but it is... weird. (I actually remember the joke, but, although it is hilariously funny and to this day I can't tell it without cracking up, it's not very nice. But what is conscience on the Web?) Comments That was Amy's poem, no? Says Josh I was never sure if she wrote it, or if she heard it somewhere else. She sent two contrasting versions. The other was: Roses are red, Also funny, but not AS funny (that was my judgment -- to which she replied I was wrong). And nearly as tasteless, anyway. Says Xy ...and now both versions are on the Internet for future generations to behold. :) Says Xy The one with "because I'm blind" appears in an early Far Side cartoon, I believe. He may not have been the first person to think of it (sometimes comic strips reuse jokes, it's true), but I'm pretty sure I saw it there. Says tODD These jokes are not funny Says Post a comment |
