Not Dead, Just...

planting a garden...

painting the kitchen...

and sewing curtains.

And furiously collecting data and writing papers in a mad dash to May 1, the finish line.

Todd is sleeping.

Lookin' Good ... What are you growing?

(I've got basil, oregano, dill, lavender, parsley and cilantro going in my little garden ... and yes, I know you guys don't like cilantro, but man you should see those babies grow!)

Let's see: basil, dill, cilantro, green onions, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, spinach and radishes. And those monstrosities at the far end are zucchini.

I actually love cilantro, and Todd is learning to tolerate it, but ours is not off to such a hot start. We'll probably grow some other things, but not from seed, to ensure that at least a few plants will survive my inept and novice gardening skills. :)

Wow! I'm in awe of you...

I started my cilantro from seeds (and 3-year old seeds at that) about two weeks ago, and they took off like mad, surpassing all the others, including the ones that were planted the week before.

This is my first gardening attempt too, and after about a month all my pots have at least a few sprouts, so I'm feeling pleased with myself. (Now if only they'd get big enough to start cooking with them!) I figured for my first attempt, I'd stick with a few types of seeds, and if this goes well, maybe next time I'll branch out into something more exotic (like zucchini!!!) :)

Heh -- as for awe, I'd hold off until June or so, when you can behold the results, or lack thereof.

I've learned one thing so far: I would have been better off seeding most of these plants directly into my containers (not the peat pots). Transplanting is a bitch, it's time-consuming, and the plants react unhappily.

Would that the basil survives!

I'll include an invocation to the gardening gods on behalf of your basil et al. when I'm out doing my rain dance tonight... ;)
