A house can be pretty boring when your roommate goes out of town and it's TV Turnoff Week.

My tomatoes are growing like mad.

I went on a tour of local farms this weekend. I got fresh honey, fresh ice cream, fresh cheese, and an armload of free lettuce straight out of the ground. I love farms.

Salads are always tastier than I remember them. Eat more salads.

There is nothing like moving in with your SO, watching two ex-roommates propose to their girlfriends within a month, and receiving invitations to 3 weddings to make one obsess about one's relationship, is there?

Your first snippet would lead me to believe that you are not watching TV for just this week because it's officially TV Turnoff Week.

My question is: if you like TV, why not watch it?

Because I'm experimenting. I like TV, but I feel like an addict lately, rather than in control of my viewing habits -- it's like a security blanket, something I do when I'm too lazy to think of something better or more important to do.

So for this week, I'm training (forcing) myself to find something else to do. Turn on the radio. Play with the cats. Go for a walk. I could have picked any week, or any time span -- TV Turnoff Week was fortuitous. In the last two days, I've done a lot of baking (with varying degrees of success), reading, and homework, and I don't break into sweats when I don't find out what happened on Felicity. And that's a Good Thing.

[but today was a catastrophe -- I broke things, plants died, I alternately superglued and burned my fingers, dinner turned out terrible... if only I'd watched Gilmore Girls, I would have been more relaxed and focused, right?] ;)

This is an outrage!
How dare your SO leave you in NC and then, my god, plan to leave you in TX?
is there an explanation for this?
And, by the way, none of those days in May are good for a party.
It's damn fun stuff!

Xy - your answer is interesting. I had previously disdained such activities as TV Turnoff Week because they seemed to offer Americans a chance to feel good about themselves without effecting any real change (anyone remember the National Gas Out day?).

But if you use it as a jumping-off point, then I suppose arbitrary days for arbitrary activities can be quite helpful. Said the guy who follows a faith with a yearly calendar.
I hope it goes well for you.
